Ski Val d'Isere Like
a Jedi Knight

Your
"Beyond Ski Instruction" Benefits, in Val d'Isere
Hello everyone
Thank goodness for Star Wars, it provides us with
the perfect skiing lingo; great skiers like Jedi knights use The Force
and like Jedi knights we want the force to be with us.
What is the force in skiing?
The instant you are on the mountain, you are bathed in the force, and
all you need to learn is how to use it. My teachings today will explain
what The Force is, and show you how to connect to it. As Jedis put
it: Let the force be with you.
What is the force?
The force in skiing comes from the mountain.
The
mountain is an energy field with power steering…
Here lies a huge skiing
paradox; the mountain has power steering yet most skiers are still
manually cranking their turns.
Why?
The Force
obviously is not with them. Skiers like Jedi knights need Masters to
connect them to
the force. Let me introduce your Master as seen on photo 1. This master
is not human has no brain
and no muscles, yet has the ability to convey the force and even make a
drawing of it in material form for you.

THIS
SNOWBALL IS YOUR MASTER
Fall line (down hill is this way)
Look
at the
perfect path that your master (the snowball) travelled when thrown
across the hill. The force draws the arc.
|
The
snowball started here by being thrown across the hill, remember it has
no brains and no muscles, yet achieves a perfect carved turn to the
fall line!
How?
Because the snowball
use the force to allow the curve to happen. The snowball has perfect
turning power to the fall line because it never interferes with the
natural
phenomena of the gravity-powered universe that it is in.
The snowball principle:
In order to understand
this, I have my ski clients throw snowballs across the hill to observe
what happens.
When thrown slowly, snowballs makes a very tight arc towards the fall
line. This is a beginner's
dream, slow speed on a tight turning arc, without any skidding and
slipping involved. When thrown faster, snowballs makes a
bigger arc still with no skidding and no slipping.
Force
turning power number 1.
When coming from the
traverse of any given slope, the slower the speed of the snowball, the
tighter the arc becomes with no skid and no slipping (the snowball on
the photo did not skid in any way shape or form!).
Force turning power number 2.
When
coming from the traverse of any given slope, greater speed lengthens
both the arc and
the time required for the snowball to reach the fall line. (Still
without neither skidding nor slipping). When you play with speed, you
play with time and you play with turn radii.
What is desirable in
the behaviour of snowballs that we should apply in our skiing?
Snowballs
are flowing with the force of gravity and as a consequence accept the
curve. I describe this as doing the right nothing.
What is not desirable
in our skiing that skiers could do without?
Skiers
usually prevent natural curves from happening. I describe this as doing
the wrong something.
The cure:
In
order to make perfect arcs at
the start of our curve we have to allow ourselves to behave like a
snowball would. Although this sounds simple enough there is more to it
then that. The biggest obstacle to overcome being our desire to
initiate the turn using muscle power controlled by our own central
nervous system. Snowballs use the power supplied by the central nervous
system of 'Gravity'.
My question to you
today is the following:
When was the last time
you considered using Gravity's central nervous system instead of your
own
to initiate your curves?
As you are pondering on
your answer bear in mind that Jedi skiers do not seek to initiate their
curves
through their own action, instead they connect themselves into the
central nervous system of 'gravity' that I have metaphorically called
the force. There is a very important moment in skiing. This crucial
moment is were 'turn initiation' takes place and this is where you are
faced with two possible choices of action to choose from to engage in
your curve.
Choice 1:
You are a control freak
and decide to do the turn yourself condemning
you to remain an intermediate skier for life. This is what I describe
as doing the wrong something.
Choice
2:
Accept to be turned by
magic through the force to become a Jedi skier.
This what I describe as doing the right nothing.
Conclusion
Brute
force versus
acceptance of natural flow…the choice is yours.
007 Skiing review.
The new James Bond has
skiing in
it, yet I have used Star Wars concepts to enhance your skiing. The
answer is simple; the skiing is Bond's latest release is nothing
special. The skiing takes place on wind-packed powder not allowing
impressive style to be displayed, not to mention the very tacky scene
where the villain Bond girl says with adoration 'James, you are a
wonderful skier' or something to that effect.
Aside from reading
the
Newsletter, what more can you do to reach the ethos of skiing?
· Remove
mechanical
imbalance from the body with alignment. Call me in Val D'Isere to
organise your appointment. I am using superb British footbeds as the
starting point for all alignments. Please do not purchase footbeds for
your ski boots, they are unlikely to perform as well as the
Vectorthotic products that I am now using. Even if you not considering
alignment these products are the best and come highly recommended.
· Listen to
the Ski
Wizdom ski motivation programme. This (4 tapes) audiocassette programme
is designed to get you to think and act like experts skiers (change of
purpose).
· Ski with me for on mountain solutions to the points
explained. There you will be videoed on the hill and taken to the
Triffolet restaurant for a free drink and immediate playback. During
video playback you will see and feel what is happening in your skiing.
The emphasis will be on the points that I describe in my newsletters
plus many more that you will discover once ready. I will introduce the
benefits of alignment by making simple temporary adjustments allowing
you to understand more about it. It is in your interest to get the tape
programme and listen to it several times before your holiday to get the
most out of what I will show you. Your progress rate will be 250% more
efficient this way.
Booking
tuition with
Bernard Chesneau is best done early as he gets very booked up.
· Read my ski book Ski As You Think to
gain greater understanding and help you move forward mentally before
you reach the slopes.
· Tell your friends about the newsletter. They can sign up on any page on this website.
· Have you
had your alignment checked and sorted? You can
book an appointment now and have it done once in Val d'Isere.
· Choosing ski equipment that will work harmoniously with
you is a real science; I can help, so feel free to share your thoughts
before coming to Val d'Isere. I will share my knowledge.
Until then, Ski With Passion.
